When the Smallest Things Set Them Off

"I've been replaying an incident with my son for the past few days."
Her 7-year-old came home from his grandmother's house on Sunday morning where he'd spent the night watching as much TV as he wanted, having his food brought to him, living his best life and within minutes of walking through the door, he noticed that his CrunchLabs kit had been moved and a piece was missing. He'd spent all of Saturday afternoon working on it carefully, diligently, piece by piece, and he hadn't even gotten to play with it before he had to leave. So when he came home and found it disturbed, he yelled at everyone.
She sent him to his room and a full meltdown ensued.
She gave him a few minutes, went up, told him it's okay to be frustrated but yelling at the family isn't okay, and that she'd be there when he was ready to calm down and apologize. He came out quietly about five minutes later and then fell apart again, this time because the family was being too loud and interrupting his show.
She's been replaying it for days.
What is wrong with my kid? How do I help him manage his frustration better?
Imma hold your hand while I say this:
